Here is a pattern we see too often: a business invests properly in CCTV, fire alarms and access control, then treats the handover as the finish line. Two years later a critical incident happens, and the camera that mattered had been offline for months. Nobody knew, because nobody was checking.
That is the case for an Annual Maintenance Contract, in one story. Security systems do not fail loudly. They fail silently, and an AMC exists to catch the silence.
A meaningful AMC is preventive, not just reactive. Scheduled visits where cameras are cleaned and refocused, recording verified against retention targets, detectors tested, batteries measured and replaced on age, firmware updated, and a written health report after each visit. Plus a committed response time when something does break, so a breakdown is a phone call, not a procurement cycle.
Be wary of AMCs that are only a discount coupon on future repairs. The value is in the visits that prevent the repair.
An AMC typically costs a small percentage of your system value per year. One prevented incident, one recovered footage clip, one fire detector that worked because it was cleaned in March, pays for years of it. Insurance you hope to waste is still the cheapest thing you will buy for your security system.
At Loxit we back every installation with AMC options across CCTV, access control, fire systems and IT infrastructure, PAN India, because a system we installed should still be protecting you years later.
Frequency should follow environment, not habit. Clean office spaces do well with quarterly preventive visits. Industrial sites with dust, vibration and outdoor cameras justify bi-monthly or monthly attention, dust is the quiet enemy of both camera lenses and smoke detectors. Fire systems deserve their own testing calendar regardless, because their failure mode is invisible until the worst moment.
Between visits, remote checks fill the gap: recorder health, disk status and camera-online status can be verified without a site visit, which is how a good AMC partner catches a failed disk in days instead of months.
Ask three questions before signing any AMC. First, what exactly is on the visit checklist, insist on seeing it, vague promises of servicing mean nothing. Second, what is the committed response time for breakdowns, in writing. Third, does the partner actually know your system, the company that installed it, or one experienced with the same brands, will diagnose in one visit what a stranger takes three visits to learn.
At Loxit, AMC clients get scheduled preventive visits with written health reports, priority breakdown response and honest advice on when a component is worth repairing versus replacing. It is the least glamorous thing we sell, and by year three, most clients call it the most valuable.
